McIntosh Memorial Library- Teen Ambassadorship posted 9/23/25

The McIntosh Memorial Library of Viroqua is seeking 5 volunteer Teen Ambassadors for the period of October 2025 to September 2026 to support its Books Unbanned Campaign. The Brooklyn Public Library is providing the grant funding. This grant enables McIntosh Memorial Library to join other libraries fighting for the rights of teens nationwide to read what they like, discover themselves, and form their own opinions. Inspired by the American Library Association’s Freedom to Read Statement, Books Unbanned is a response to an increasing effort to remove books from library shelves, namely books targeting race, racism, equity, and social justice.

Applicants must be between the ages of 14-18 and available to table at different monthly outreach events (sometimes on a weekend), assist library staff at a Banned Book giveaway, meet & assist a leading banned books author, and commit to helping set up various displays and represent the library at events. The Teen Ambassador will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the full scope of what it means to be a banned book advocate through this campaign.

This is a long-term volunteer position with a $50 paid Visa gift card which will be paid at the beginning of the project. Teens will also be able to sign up for a Brooklyn Public Library e-card, which provides access to the full e-book, audiobook, and online learning databases. McIntosh Memorial Library will also provide letters of support to any college or technical school a Teen Ambassador is applying to.

Those who are interested in applying will complete and submit an Application for Teen Ambassadorship located on the library website www.mcintoshmemoriallibrary.org. Of Note: There is limited flexibility in the project schedule, and teens may be removed from the ambassadorship if they miss two or more events scheduled.

The application can also be picked up at the library’s circulation desk by asking any staff member for it. The applications are due by the end of the business day on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

Once completed, the application can be dropped off at McIntosh Memorial Library’s circulation desk or emailed to Emilia Jury, Youth Services Director, at e.jury@wrlsweb.org.

Please refer all questions to Emilia Jury, Youth Services Director, by calling 608-637-7151 ext. 05 or emailing e.jury@wrlsweb.org.

McIntosh Memorial Library is located at 205 S. Rock Avenue, Viroqua, WI 54665

We are most interested in finding the best candidates for this ambassadorship, and that candidate may come from a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences. If you’re interested, we encourage you to think broadly and proudly about your background and skill set for the role and apply!
