McIntosh Memorial Library to launch Youth Garden Club

The McIntosh Memorial Library is entering the fifth year of managing a fruit and vegetable garden in Viroqua. Located behind the future Viroqua Welcome Center (former Bath House) on Rock Avenue, the equitable and educational garden began in partnership with UW Extension thanks to a federally funded grant. Products grown can only be used in educational programming or donated to support individuals experiencing food insecurity.

To bolster involvement in the garden project a Library Garden Club is being formed. Youth Services Director Emilia Jury invites interested youth to get involved, “Whether you have a green thumb or are just getting started this is a great opportunity to dig in, learn about plants, and enjoy some time outdoors. Come ready to weed, water, plant, and nurture our community green space.”

The Garden Club is open to all youth ages 6-9. The library will provide gloves and all the gardening tools. The Club will meet every Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 in the garden space beginning on Wednesday, April 9.

Registration for the Garden Club is required and can be done by visiting the library website under Calendar. For further information contact Jury at 608-637-7151 x 5.
